It’s Time to Fix Social Security

The system is broken and we need to fix Social Security instead of just talking about it. Congress has failed to act on this vital issue, and retirees are suffering as low benefits compete with a high cost of living. We believe that the first (and much-needed) step is to pass a bill we call The Greatest Generation Benefits Act.

This important legislation has been stuck in limbo waiting for Congress to make older Americans a priority. Unfortunately, Social Security recipients don’t have a lot of time to wait. Benefits are too low and are making it hard for retirees to keep up with high prices. This is especially challenging for members of the greatest generation. These Americans lived, fought, and sacrificed through World War Two and Korea, and they deserve better!

We don’t think those who gave the most should get the least. While Social Security is supposed to be there for Americans after retirement, living on benefits alone is nearly impossible. Our elected officials have a duty to take care of Americans in retirement but nothing has happened yet. Passing The Greatest Generation Benefits Act is the best way to hold our government accountable and give back to those in need.

Social Security benefits have been low for a long time — and things are only getting worse. Even the Cost-of-Living Adjustment (COLA) increases have not done much to make retirement more affordable. While the cost of living increases, benefits barely move. Something must change. The Greatest Generation Benefits Act is the best option to help many seniors navigate retirement. Under this legislation, Americans 82 and over would receive an extra $85 per month plus a 4 percent increase annually. Learn more about this important bill and sign our petition here.
