Navy Veteran Bernard Atkins was recently honored with a flag presentation. This came shortly after his 94th birthday and was part of an annual event to celebrate veterans. During the war, Adkins served as a Guard and Gunner from 1944 to 1946. Certainly, this hero deserves all the honor and respect we can give. What made this ceremony more special was who presented him with the flag.
This 94-year-old Navy Veteran was surprised to see his grandson arrive at his home. Atkins’ grandson serves in the military himself. Taking a break from his Army deployment, he gladly surprised his grandfather. While the honor was touching, it was the homecoming that truly brightened Bernard’s day. He likely could not have asked for a better birthday gift. See the video below.
We celebrate veterans like Bernard Atkins and all members of the greatest generation. To further honor them, we strive to create needed change for these important Americans. While we owe our freedoms to these great men and women, we have not given them enough back. By supporting the “Greatest Generation Benefits Act” we urge Congress to take action.
