What a Social Security Increase Could Mean for Seniors
A Social Security increase could change everything for many older Americans. While so many senior citizens rely on these benefits, the amount they receive is not enough to live on alone. Many Americans reach retirement believing that Social Security will be enough to provide for them. Unfortunately, reality hits hard when benefits are not enough to cover monthly bills. A change to Social Security is desperately needed.
How The Greatest Generation Benefits Act Would Change Social Security
The bill we call The Greatest Generation Benefits Act would give many seniors the benefits they deserve. Specifically, this legislation is aimed at giving back to those who have already given so much. While members of the greatest generation sacrificed immensely for this country, they receive little in return. This is not acceptable. Current Social Security benefits do not give these retirees what they have earned. If this new legislation passes in Congress, it will give seniors over the age of 82 an extra $85 per month plus 4% annually every year after.
How much of a difference would this make?
While 4% may not seem like much, keep in mind that the last cost of living increase was only 1.3%. Furthermore, $85 might not sound like a lot, but it can make a huge difference. For those in need, this could easily cover:
- A significant amount of groceries.
- Internet or phone bill.
- Monthly cable bill.
- 1-2 utility bills.
- OTC or Prescription medication.
When we look at average monthly expenses, $85 can certainly help. When we add the extra 4%, this plan would definitely be a substantial Social Security increase for our seniors.
How Can You Help?
We are working with our allies on Capitol Hill to get this important legislation passed. However, it is still an uphill battle. Congressional approval requires community support. This means that we need everyone who believes this change is necessary, to let their opinion be counted. One of the best ways you can do this is to sign our petition to Congress. Once you have signed, be sure to share with friends and family on Facebook and Twitter. Thank you for your support, and be sure to check out our latest news and updates.
