Texas Nursing Home residents who have received a Covid-19 vaccine are seeing a change they have long awaited. While many older Americans have spent the last year in isolation, recent changes mean more visits for vaccinated residents. The State Health Department announced new rules that allow in-person visits which, of course, are a welcome change from video calls and waving at family through windows.

Previously, Texas nursing home residents had limited if any contact with family. In March of 2020, Governor Greg Abbott shut down visits across the state to slow the spread in these vulnerable communities. In August, restrictions eased up a bit, however, things were far from back to normal. While some facilities started allowing visits, social distancing was in effect. Although residents were happy to see their families again, they were not able to hug them until now.

Under the new rules and guidelines, any fully vaccinated resident may have unlimited visits and hugs as long as facility procedures allow. This is great news for many elderly Americans and their families. We are always happy to bring you some good news. To get the latest, be sure to follow The Greatest Generation on Facebook and Twitter.
