How a Social Security Increase Would Help the Elderly

A Social Security increase would vastly improve the lives of American seniors. For those who rely on these benefits, they simply are not enough. Social security recipients have been in need of change for years. This change could come in the form of legislation we call The Greatest Generation Benefits Act.

What is the Greatest Generation Benefits Act?

We call this congressional bill The Greatest Generation Benefits Act because it directly affects those who lived through WWII and Korea. These are Americans who gave so much. However, in retirement, they receive so little. More than a one-time increase, this bill, if passed into law, would change the way Social Security addresses Annual Inflation. In the past, the annual Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA) has done little to offset changing costs. The COLA for 2021, for example, was only 1.3 percent. This bill would raise benefits for Americas 82 and older by an additional $85 per month and 4 percent each additional year.

How Far Would this Social Security Increase Go?

Some may ask if this would amount to much. The fact is that a 4 percent increase is more than seniors have received through COLA since 2008. Additionally, $85 per month can seriously help with bills and other expenses like:

  • Internet – Average $35-$60 per month
  • Landline Phone – Average $42 per month
  • Electric Bill – Average depending on state – $81 – $170
  • Water Bill – Average $70.93 Per month

Clearly, an additional $85 can make a real dent in the monthly bills. This amount plus the additional 4 percent offers seniors an increase that can actually keep up with inflation.
