Colorado WWII veteran Sgt. 1st Class Harold Nelson received the U.S. Army’s second-highest honor, the Silver Star, at Fort Carson at the age of 107. This deserving hero also earned two Purple Hearts for his valor in combat. The Silver Star ceremony was definitely past due.

Nelson Served in World War II with F Company, 2nd Battalion, 7th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Infantry Division. During his service, he built an impressive resume. He was part of Operation Torch in Morocco, a vital Allied mission to draw Axis forces away from the Eastern Front in northern Europe.

He also participated in Operation Husky in Sicily and both Operation Avalanche and Operation Shingle in Italy. Nelson’s service also included six different amphibious invasions and 635 consecutive days of nonstop combat.

Just hearing of the time he spent in battle and the multiple invasions he was involved in, it’s hard to imagine that there was any honor Nelson was not already awarded decades ago. Fortunately, he finally received the Silver Star he earned so long ago. Read the full story here.

We believe strongly in giving back to those like Harold Nelson who gave so much. That is exactly why we urge Congress to pass a bill we call The Greatest Generation Benefits Act. Please take a moment to sign our petition and let them know that these Americans deserve better. Stay up to date with this legislation by following us on Facebook and Twitter.
