Battle of the Bulge Recalled Through the Eyes of a 95-Year-old Who Was There

The Battle of the Bulge was an undeniably important point in World War II. In fact, Winston Churchill called it “the greatest American battle of the war.” It is hard to argue with this since the battle, also known as the Battle of the Ardennes, was Adolf Hitler’s last major offensive against the Western Front and posed a real threat to allied forces.

Hitler hoped that this military action would incapacitate the Allies who were pushing toward Germany. While the German plan to divide Britain, France, and the U.S was a very strategic operation, its ultimate failure led to Allied victory. In total, The Battle of The Bulge lasted six weeks from December 16, 1944, to January 25, 1945

Troops had to deal with extreme winter weather and constant attacks from around 30 German divisions in a battle spanning 85 miles of treacherous terrain in the Ardennes Forest. One remarkable veteran, Frank Grasberger, recalls what it was really like in the video below.
