Minnesota Vietnam Veteran Honored at Special Event
Minnesota Vietnam veteran Bert Kortekaas Sr. was recently honored with a special event in his hometown of Hill City. Bert is well-known in the community and highly respected for his great service. According to The Cozy Cove Coffee Company of Hill City, 93-year-old Kortekaas is a longtime resident and a Vietnam War Veteran. It’s great to see him getting the honor he deserves for his service and sacrifice.
Many Vietnam veterans, unfortunately, did not receive the treatment they should have upon returning home. Of course, today, public opinion, media representation, and veterans organizations have shifted toward respect for those who sacrificed in the Vietnam war. Bert Kortekaas, is actually receiving two special honors. He has been selected to take part in an honor flight. Additionally, the community set up a special send-off for him earlier this month.
On October 9th, Kortekaas watched as members of his community gathered to show their appreciation and respect for this Minnesota Vietnam veteran. The event included a parade of emergency vehicles as residents gathered along the street in celebration of a man who bravely served the country. The police and fire department took part as well as the Hill City American Legion Color Guard and local businesses that contributed to the event. Read more here.
