What Exactly is so Great about The Greatest Generation?
You have likely heard references to “the greatest generation.” But, do you know what that really means? The greatest generation refers to those Americans who worked, fought, and sacrificed through World War Two and Korea to keep our nation strong. We’ve all heard the phrase, but what does it really mean?
The Greatest Generation Led Us Through World War II
The Second World War was a huge moment in history that legitimately changed the world forever. In many ways, this time period felt like it may really be the end of the world. While unprecedented evil threatened life around the world, brave Americans joined with global forces to protect freedom and democracy. Beyond those who served overseas, men and women did amazing things to preserve American life on the homefront.
The Korean War and the Greatest Generation
In the 1950s, America was changing in a very positive way. Newfound wealth sent Americans to the suburbs where they enjoyed the booming economy and emerging technology. The American people were finally comfortable again without a world war or depression to contend with. However, the Korean War would not let the dream go unchallenged. Once again, the greatest generation stepped up and did what had to be done.
Have We Now Forgotten This Generation of Heroes?
We owe so much to these great Americans. This begs the question, have we given enough? How do you repay the sacrifices of so many? Sadly, many of those who gave so much are struggling to get by today. This is why we believe Congress must pass The Greatest Generation Benefits Act.
