Pets Brighten the Day of Nursing Home Residents
These nursing home residents get love and support from some very special visitors. Pets have an amazing ability to brighten people’s day, and when they stop by this retirement home, it certainly gives a much-needed boost.
Residents of the Armed Forces Retirement Home in Washington, DC have been getting visits from four-legged friends for several years now. It began when Pat Wells decided after 9-11 that she wanted to do something to give back.
She began visiting the residents on her own, but when she brought her dog, everything changed. Residents took so much comfort in spending time with furry companions, that today, a group of volunteers bring their pets regularly to bring a little joy to the seniors. Check out the video below.
This is definitely a great way to give back to our seniors. Another great way to help older Americans is to encourage Congress to pass the bill we call The Greatest Generation Benefits Act. Our nationwide survey shows how much support this life-changing legislation has. You can learn more and send a message to Congress by reviewing and signing our petition.
