Marilyn Monroe — From Pin-Up to American Icon
Marilyn Monroe may have lived a tragically short life, but in a short time, she changed the face of Hollywood forever. In addition to her contributions as a model and actress, she was an inspiration to generations of Americans. She became the image of success. She inspired young women to reach for their dreams. Even today, her image graces posters and her quotes reverberate with younger generations.
Although she became one of the biggest stars of her time, Marilyn Monroe (born Norma Jeane Mortenson) remained grounded. Her perpetual down-to-earth charm and attitude was part of why she was loved by so many. She never stopped being a girl with a dream. As such, she celebrated other women rather than putting herself above them. She was quoted in 1954 as saying “We are all of us stars, and we deserve to twinkle.” In a way, her star still shines today. Check out our look back at this Hollywood queen below.
