WWII Veteran Celebrates 100th Birthday

A Minnesota man recently turned 100 years old. Nearly 100 people gathered to celebrate with him, including the governor. Gordy Kirk is a World War II veteran and a respected part of his community.

At the age of 100, Kirk remains young at heart. “I still feel like a young man. I don’t feel like I’m 100,” he said at the hometown event. The fact is, there was a time when he certainly didn’t expect to be blowing out 100 candles.

Gordy served in the U.S. Army during WWII when the military was still segregated. As an African-American, he faced additional challenges at the time. Racial barriers, however, did not stop him from serving bravely.

He recounts that during the war, he wasn’t sure he would make it home. Fortunately, he is here with us today to celebrate another year. Read more about Kirk’s story here.

Thanks for helping us wish Gordy Kirk a happy 100th Birthday. We would love it if you could help us give back to others who sacrificed during WWII by signing our petition to pass The Greatest Generation Benefits Act.
