Visiting the World War II Memorial

Visiting the World War II Memorial is an amazing experience. It is, however, an experience that many may not have in their lifetime. For those who cannot make it to Washington D.C, there is an online virtual tour which you can see below. While this is a great convenience, nothing compares to being there in person. Volunteer and charitable efforts like Honor Flight have helped many veterans themselves to visit the memorial to the war in which they served. Whether or not you served, visiting the World War II memorial should definitely be on your list.

A beautiful pool with fountains reaching toward the sky sits surrounded by impressive granite columns. These columns represent each U.S. state and territory at the time of World War II. Additionally, quotes and references to the sacrifices of our great veterans can be found throughout the federal ground. Perhaps the most emotional scene is the wall of 4,048 gold stars standing as a tribute to the supreme sacrifice made by over 400,000 Americans. Check out the video below, and plan a trip to D.C if you can make it. It’s worth it.
