South Carolina WWII Veteran James McPherson is turning 101 this year. Unfortunately, he does not get to spend this special day with his family this year. McPherson currently resides in an assisted living community and has little contact with the outside world. During World War 2, however, he spent his days in Italy serving in the United States Army.

While his service helped so many, his birthday is a little lonely this year. However, there is a way to make his celebration special. To help him feel connected to the country he served, James wants birthday cards this year. ABC15 News reports that cards are welcome from anyone and provided how you can do so!

Too late to get a card to him for his birthday? Don’t hesitate to send him a belated happy birthday. It’s never too late to share a kind word with a hero.
