Park Renamed After WWII Veteran

Caroline Patrick from ABC7 reports that a park in Columbia, Maryland was renamed to honor Vivian “Millie” Bailey. Ms. Bailey is 102 years old and a World War II veteran.

The renaming ceremony comes after the 102-year-old completed a skydiving excursion earlier this month. She was inspired to skydive by President George H. W. Bush who did so when he was 90-years-old.

Before moving to Maryland, she grew up in Oklahoma during segregation where opportunities were few and far between. She joined the army during World War II and “moved through the ranks rather quickly.” She eventually attained the rank of first lieutenant.

Congratulations to Ms. Bailey for this great honor from her community. She has lived an extraordinary life and completely deserves it.

Unfortunately, those who served during WWII and the Korean War – those who did so much for this country – seem to get the least.

People like Ms. Bailey are the why we must pass the bill we call The Greatest Generation Benefits Act. This legislation will raise Social Security benefits for retirees age 82 and older by $85 a month and provide an annual 4% increase.

Please join us here at The Greatest Generation as we work to pass our legislation. We hope you will sign our petition calling on Congress to act. CLICK HERE to add your name to The Greatest Generation Benefits Act Petition.
